Career Self-Management: Focus Here First
Video Recording of Session

As busy professionals with multiple priorities, when do we find the time to stop and consider our own developmental needs? When do we take the time to analyze out own wants? When do we figure out how to take action to move the needle on our own career satisfaction? The answer is usually “not often enough.” We operate in overdrive, we balance so many balls, we run so fast. We help others develop. It’s no wonder we don’t pause to think about our own careers and our own development. This is a chance to point the finger at yourself and do some thinking about your own career.

Dr. Beverly Kaye will introduce us to a five-step career development process while we connect our colleagues, learn about and from one another, and consider the application to our clients.

Make Work More Human (:120)
Video Recording of Session

"Your story speaks to my story." This reflection on the power of our stories to impact each other was shared with Renee Smith by her learning group consultant, Ginnie Beldon Charles. In this session, Renee will share her story of following her curiosity, using her opportunities, and taking bold action, believing that we need to have an impact on the world. Wondering what it takes to create a workplace where customers are satisfied and employees can truly thrive, she came to believe that it takes decreasing fear and increasing love to foster a human workplace. Love? Yes love. Learn insights from Renée Smith’s primary qualitative research on fear and love. Hear the story of its application in a system of 60,000 employees. Grapple with accountability in a loving workplace. Learn a tool that can be applied to any challenge to bring more love. Gain insights into how to improve psychological safety, engagement, and performance. Reflect on standing for love in organizations as a practitioner. Connect to the love embedded in your own OD practice, and inspire your commitment to make organizations more human!

Structure of Belonging: Reshaping Our Community Focused on Our Gifts (:90)

Video Recording of Session

What does Community mean to MSOD? In October, members of our community began the conversation with Peter Block around co-creating the community we want for ourselves. Building on Block’s Structure of Belonging, we will explore a holistic view of how we contribute to our community and impact the world.

Diving deeper into conversations of Possibility, Dissent, and Commitment, this session will pave the way for a future that honors all our gifts.

The MSOD Contributions Committee will guide us through accountability and generosity where:
• Diversity of thinking and dissent are given space,
• Commitments are made without barter, and
• The gifts of each person in our community are acknowledged and valued.

What is required of you?
• To commit to the time, engage with others, and be willing to postpone quick action.

Wise Self as Instrument in an Age of Uncertainty: Regaining Resilience Through Working with Our Unconscious Parts

Our clients and other stakeholders increasingly look to us as a source of stability in uncertain times. As we serve others we may find ourselves in danger of losing energy, clarity, strategic thinking, compassion, courage, perhaps even our will to take good care of ourselves. This session introduces a model of working with unconscious motivations to reconnect with your wise self. You’ll identify at least one personal strategy to regain resilience.

Designing Virtual Learning Experiences (:90)
Video Recording of Session

In early 2020 Covid struck, and it became impossible to deliver face-to-face leadership development programs. In July, we were invited to partner with a Fortune 50 client to redesign their VP program to operate on a 100% virtual basis. Like many other colleagues, we experimented and learned a lot on the fly. In this session, we will share feedback received and work together to surface key learnings. Participants will broaden their understanding of the benefits of virtual learning and when to use it.

Global DEI: A Panel Discussion (:90)
Video Recording of Session

Future Focus: A unique opportunity to hear from external OD and DEI practitioners who have worked globally across multiple systems throughout the pandemic. After such events as the Summer of Unrest, the pandemic, and the shift to virtual work, what’s really changing about the way organizations are approaching inclusion (organizational culture), diversity, and equity? What trends and patterns are we seeing? Where are organizations most stubborn, and where do the opportunities lie?

This session will be most useful for participants who have a working understanding of DEI; a passion for thinking in systems; a role to influence change within their own organization; and an interest in where we can go, not where we’ve been.

System, Self and Designing for Equity; from a Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) perspective (:60, not recorded)
This fireside chat with three Chief Diversity Officers, moderated by MSOD alum Dani Monroe, will examine the challenges and recommendations for organization development practitioners who are leading the DE&I efforts in a highly charged social justice era.

This plenary session will examine the challenges and recommendations for organization development practitioners who are leading the DE&I efforts in a highly charged social justice era.

Through the lens of system and intrapersonal change, we will discuss the inherent tension and conflicts that organization development practitioners must grapple with to be effective and successful at this moment in history. We will discuss whether you must give up a part of yourself to align with corporate culture and norms? Or is there a place to hold your individuality, especially if you’re a person of color? And, what happens when you hit the invisible wall of culture and racism?

Participants will learn how:
  • Healthy self -identity plays a large role in dismantling inequitable systems
  • DE&I system change is integral to all aspects of an organization.
  • As an OD professional, we have a responsibility to incorporate equity into all aspects of our work regardless of the type of change we are leading

Change Management is Dead! Burying old ways to make room for Transformational Change (:90)
Video Recording of Session

The change management industry is a $10billion dollar global industry. As organisations continue to pursue and invest in change, we as OD practitioners must ask ourselves how we best serve our client systems. Our reliance on change management tools and methodologies are outdated and limiting; they are also ineffective, leading to widespread change fatigue. We must stop colluding with the commercialisation of these tools to ask ourselves what is really needed here.
In this session, we challenge the notion that change is predictable and linear; it is anything but! We’ll talk about 3 types of change and take a deep dive into transformational change - a type of change that fundamentally challenges the identity and values of an organisation. Enabling and sustaining transformational change takes a completely different mindset, approach, and set of skills – one where no single certification or methodology can be a silver bullet.
Join Allison to learn more about how to evolve your change practice and create healthier, sustainable, effective and joyful change. We will walk through Allison’s “Transformational Change Loops” model, work with your real organisational change challenges, and have robust conversations about our lived experience of change. After all, it is Allison’s deep belief that we are all experts of change!

Leverage Change: 8 Ways to Achieve Faster, Easier, Better Results with Any Change Work in Any Organization Done by Anyone (:90)
Video Recording of Session

In this session, you'll get real work done. Whether your change effort is straightforward or complex, involves only your own team or the whole organization, or is just beginning or well underway, this experience will hit the mark. You'll leave with a fresh perspective that will enable you to achieve faster, easier, better results with individual coaching, team development and organization-wide change efforts.

We will focus our work on Leverage Change: 8 Ways to Achieve Faster, Easier, Better Results but with several big twists from presentations I made at Pepperdine’s Wisdom Wednesday and MSOD-only events. Using a “Rapid Response Consulting” experience, you’ll witness a real time roll up the sleeves demonstration of the power of applying the 8 Levers of my Leverage Change approach. We'll debrief this experience by "getting inside my head" to understand why I asked the questions I did, which levers I used, and how I decided to deploy these particular levers in this situation.

Then a participant will do the same -- consult to a colleague and all learn from the "consultant" which levers they used, why, and how they decided to use these as opposed to others.

Finally, you’ll have your own opportunity to use these same strategies on any change work on your agenda. You'll identify and address the most common problems in your current change work – and know how to do it when you recognize them in the future too.

That path is being human, being courageous, and being patient. If you allowed yourself to be more human in your work instead of holding back, what might you awaken? What impact can we and our clients have in the world when more leaders show up this way?

Responding to the Climate Crisis with Dialogic OD (:90)
Video Recording of Session

As the impacts and threats of the climate crisis become more apparent every year the conversation on what is causing it and how we can take action is becoming increasingly mainstream. This session will explore how the principles of dialogic OD can drive a new way of engaging with and responding to the climate crisis.

Please join this session if you are curious about climate change and how we can respond to it. You dont need to have an understanding of climate science or politics to participate. Our session will be participative and you will be asked to share your experience with others in small groups.

Session Objectives:
- Overview of principles of dialogic OD
- An approach and structure for meaningful group conversation on climate change
- An experience discussing their own relationship to the climate crisis
